Here are some pictures from one of my visits to Joy Creek Nursery.  Went in the middle of the day so the lighting is not the best for picture taking.

Mathilda Gutges Macrophylla Hydrangea

I purchased Mathilda for the cobalt blue petals.  Grown from a cutting from Joy Creek Nursery.  Still potted at the moment.  Will revert to blue coloring starting next summer and continue the transition over a few seasons to reach its complete cobalt blue coloring it is famous for.

Cityline Rio and Mars Macrophylla Hydrangea

I planted 2 Rio Hydrangeas in early fall 2011.  Smaller, compact, blooms on old wood, and slow growing hydrangea.  Tends to bloom very late in the season for me but is described as an early bloomer by the Proven Winners website.  However, they do receive only morning sun and may be earlier bloomers if planted in a sunnier spot.  The foliage begins in the spring and is very beautiful, dark forest green, medium shaped leaves.  In the past they have bloomed more purple than blue but I'm hoping to see more blue this season from amending the soil earlier this spring.  The blooms are very large and long lasting.  In the winter the wood stalks are very hardy and are unaffected my winter winds.

So, I'm actually starting to consider that these hydrangeas might be Cityline MARS versus RIO but I will find out later as the season progresses.

Shichidanka Serrata Hydrangea

Also referred to as Schichidanka Mountain Hydrangea.  Double starry like lacecap blooms.  Blooms turn pink to lavender-blue depending on the soil.  I chose this hydrangea mainly for its Fall foliage as the leaves are supposed to turn a pretty orange.  Prefers moist-moist soil I will deep water at least weekly during the summer in addition to our sprinkler schedule. Growth is compact reaching 4 x 4 ft at maturity.  It is in a very dry/sunny area of our yard so we will see how it does.

Endless Summer and Nikko Blue Hydrangeas

Invincibelle Spirit arborescens hydrangea

The Invincibelle Spirit is a pink version of the white flowering Annabelle.  Became available in garden centers in 2010.
